Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is aimed at 14-19 year olds who prefer and respond to 'hands-on' learning. The structure has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques, which will stimulate and interest learners.

What are the aims of the course?

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to enable you to carry out basic construction tasks and give you the chance to find your chosen career path.

What areas are covered in this course?

  • Introduction to Health and Safety
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Introduction to Hand Tools  and Power Tools
  • Introduction to Brick and Block laying 
  • Introduction to Carpentry 
  • Introduction to Electrical Installation   
  • Introduction to Plumbing 

What will I be able to go on to after I’ve completed the course?

This qualification will support progress to a Foundation (Level 1) Diploma in bricklaying or carpentry and joinery or other construction trades or maintenance operations. It can also supplement their progress to GCSEs and other appropriate destinations.

How is the course assessed?

Learning outcomes are set at unit level and are achieved by following task based, oral assessments and two theoretical paper based assessment.
