Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is aimed at 16-19 year olds who prefer and respond to 'hands-on' learning and want to become a carpenter. The structure has a practical approach to assessment and includes many different techniques and knowledge evidence, which will stimulate and interest learners.

What are the aims of the course?

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and practical skills to enable you to carry out carpentry and joinery tasks to industrial standard and prepare you for you chosen career path or employment.

What areas are covered in this course?

  • Health and Safety and Welfare in construction
  • Principals of Building Construction, Information and Communication   
  • Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools
  • Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
  • Produce woodworking joints
  • Drawings and diagrams

What will I be able to go on to after I’ve completed the course?

This qualification will support progress to a Foundation (Level 2 Diploma in site carpentry  or bench joinery or other construction trades or maintenance operations. It can also supplement their progress to GCSEs and other appropriate destinations.

How is the course assessed?

Learning outcomes are set at unit level and are achieved by following task based practical assessments, there is an online assessment for each of the above units
