Who is it suitable for?

Our Foundation Learning Programme has been specifically designed as a bespoke study programme to suit the needs of individual learners.

What are the aims of the course?

Students will gain practical knowledge and skills to help them to live safely and healthily, and to move onto further education or employment.

This qualification consists of a combination of units from:

Unit 1: Personal action planning
Unit 2: Drugs education
Unit 3: Sex and relationship education
Unit 4: Personal finance
Unit 5: Emotional wellbeing
Unit 6: Healthy lifestyles
Unit 7: Making informed career choices
Unit 8: Applying for jobs and courses
Unit 9: Relationships, behaviours and practices in the workplace
Unit 10: Personal safety
Unit 11: Being a critical consumer
Unit 12: Introduction to diversity, prejudice and discrimination

Learners must submit evidence for any of the units (each unit has a credit value of 2), achieving 8 credits for an Award and 14 credits for a Certificate. Each unit is available at the various levels.

What areas are covered in this course?                       

The course should give learners a background knowledge and understanding in personal, social and health education decision making, to become aware of their own strengths and areas for improvement. The course will enhance the learners’ awareness of moral, ethical, social, legislative, economic, cultural, environmental, health & safety issues.

What qualifications do I need to do this course?              

This course can build on the knowledge, understanding and skills acquired in programmes of study at Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum. However, no prior learning is necessary for learners to undertake a course of study.

What will I be able to go on to after I’ve completed the course?

After successfully achieving this Entry Level 2/3 Foundation Learning Programme you will be able to progress to the next level, working towards a Level 1 where you will choose a Level 1 Vocational Pathway of your choice, or Level 2.

How is the course assessed?

Learning outcomes are set at unit level and are achieved by following criteria based tasks evidenced in a portfolio for assessment. There are no exams.
