Curriculum

Drama/Dance

Within Drama at Goldwyn school we aim to develop each pupil in self-confidence and self-worth. We embrace a creative expression of ideas thoughts which will enable them to problem solve in a variety of ways. The curriculum develops themes such as mutual respect, working as a team and presenting to groups of people though performance or film. The pupils are encouraged to find an aspect that particularly interests them whether it be lighting and backstage, directing or acting itself. The skills learnt through this subject are fundamental to all lessons within the school and are transferable from a drama lesson to another subject.

The Drama Department makes every effort to inspire pupils with activities which are both relevant and a genre that they enjoy. Multi-media equipment and techniques are encouraged as we try to enhance the pupils experience and enjoyment of the subject.

During Key Stage 3, students develop an understanding of various forms of Drama and have the opportunity to engage in some of these themselves. The Students will learn to evaluate and improve pieces of work that they have constructed themselves. They will have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, or be part of a technical/ backstage crew that enables a show to be performed. They will look at playwrights such as Shakespeare and Willy Russell and the skills involved in creating a script of their own.
