Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, students follow a broad and ambitious curriculum that combines academic study, vocational learning, personal development, and preparation for adulthood. Our curriculum is designed to provide every student with a pathway that reflects their strengths, interests, and future aspirations, while ensuring they continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and qualifications needed for further education, employment, and training.
All students study a core curriculum of GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics, and GCSE Combined Science, providing the essential literacy, numeracy, and scientific understanding needed for future success. Students may also have the opportunity to study GCSE English Literature, further developing their analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Alongside the core curriculum, students can access a diverse range of qualification pathways that balance academic and vocational learning. GCSE options include Fine Art, Photography, and History, enabling students to pursue interests in creative, humanities, and analytical subjects. Vocational qualifications provide practical and industry-relevant experiences through Digital Skills for Work, Automotive Maintenance and Repair, Construction Skills, Home Cooking Skills, Performing Arts (Music and Technology), and Sport, Exercise and Fitness. These courses allow students to develop technical expertise, employability skills, and confidence through hands-on learning.
Students also benefit from opportunities to develop character, communication, and leadership skills through LAMDA Drama qualifications and participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award. These experiences strengthen confidence, resilience, teamwork, independence, and personal responsibility, preparing young people for life beyond school.
In addition to accredited qualifications, all students take part in a non-examined curriculum that includes Physical Education (PE) and Personal Social Development (PSD). These subjects support physical wellbeing, mental health, healthy lifestyles, relationships, citizenship, employability, and preparation for independent living.
Our Key Stage 4 offer is designed to ensure that every student leaves school with meaningful qualifications, valuable practical skills, and the confidence to progress successfully into further education, apprenticeships, training, employment, or wider adult life.
English
The AQA GCSE English Language (8700) specification develops students’ ability to read, analyse and evaluate a range of fiction and non-fiction texts while building their confidence as writers and communicators. The course promotes critical thinking, creativity and effective communication, providing an essential qualification for further education, training and employment.
Mathematics
The AQA GCSE Mathematics (8300) specification equips students with the numerical, algebraic and problem-solving skills needed for everyday life, further study and employment. Through the study of number, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability, students learn to think logically and apply mathematics in a range of real-world contexts.
Combined Science
The AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) specification provides students with a broad understanding of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The course develops scientific knowledge, practical understanding and analytical skills, preparing students for further study and careers in science, technology, engineering and related fields.
Automotive Maintenance and Repair
The IMI Entry Level 3 Award in Automotive Maintenance and Repair introduces students to the skills and knowledge required within the automotive industry. Through practical workshop activities and technical learning, students gain experience in vehicle maintenance, repair procedures and safe working practices.

The AQA GCSE Fine Art (8202) specification enables students to explore and develop their creativity through a wide range of artistic processes and media. Students investigate artists, experiment with techniques and create personal responses while developing valuable skills in creativity, problem-solving and self-expression.

Performing Arts: Music & Technology
The BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts offers students the opportunity to develop their musical, performance and production skills through practical projects and industry-focused learning. The course combines creativity with technology, preparing students for progression into further education and the creative industries.
Photography
The AQA GCSE Photography (8206) specification allows students to explore creative image-making through both traditional and digital photography. Students develop technical skills, visual communication and creative expression while building a portfolio that showcases their individual style and ideas.
Sport, Exercise and Fitness
The NCFE Level 1/2 Certificate in Sport, Exercise and Fitness introduces students to the principles of sport, health and physical activity. Through practical and theoretical study, learners develop an understanding of fitness, nutrition, coaching and performance, creating pathways into further study and employment within the sport sector.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award is a nationally recognised programme that develops resilience, independence and personal responsibility. Through volunteering, physical activity, skill development and expedition experiences, students build confidence and transferable life skills valued by employers and education providers.
