Senior Leadership Team

Kerry Greene – Principal

Kerry has had the pleasure of working at Goldwyn for over 10 years – ‘it is a special place with a culture to be proud of.’

She started her career in Primary schools, and quickly gravitated to inclusion and representing the needs of the most vulnerable.

Previously, Kerry has worked in primary mainstream schools, as a SENCO and onto a specialist advisory teacher across the Ashford District leading a team of fabulous specialist teachers.

Kerry has always loved inclusion-  it has been at the core of all of all her career choices: inclusing working with NASEN and KCC strategic Leader for SEND.

‘The most rewarding thing is to ignite passion in others and bring teams and systems together- I feel privileged to be in a position that I can represent a truly inclusive school with the most AMAZING students.’

In her spare time Kerry enjoys countryside walks, spending time with her 2 girls and family and friends.

James Whatley – School Business Manager

James has been a member of Goldwyn School since 2014, bringing experience from a range of roles at Kent County Council, including school finance, local children’s services partnerships, and local government pensions.

As Goldwyn’s School Business Manager, he supports the strategic leadership of the school’s operational and financial management and works closely with the Principal and Leadership Team to contribute to long-term strategic planning. Underpinned by a strong commitment to integrity, he is passionate about delivering the best possible provision for every student at Goldwyn School.

Sarah Hopker – Assistant Principal Inclusion/SENCO

With over 27 years of experience in education, Sarah began her career as a class teacher and PE specialist before moving into Special Educational Needs, later serving as a SENCO for more than a decade.

In 2016 Sarah joined the Ashford Specialist Teaching and Learning Service, working in an outreach teaching role from Goldwyn School, supporting both primary and secondary schools with strategies, training, and whole‑school inclusion development. She went on to become a SEND Inclusion Advisor for Kent County Council in 2021, leading and supporting SEND provision across a wide range of educational settings, including Primary, Secondary, Special Schools and those with Specialist Resource Provisions.

Sarah returned to Goldwyn as part of the Leadership Team in 2025 and her role is to ensure every student receives the highest standard of inclusive education in an environment where all young people are understood, supported, and able to thrive.

Outside of school, Sarah enjoys spending time with friends and family, keeping active, and cheering on her favourite football team.

Rob Garratt – Assistant Principal Behaviour/Attendance/Safeguarding

With over 25 years of experience in education, Rob has developed a strong passion for removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Throughout his career, he has championed inclusive education and relational approaches, believing that positive relationships are at the heart of helping children and young people thrive.

Rob has extensive experience leading mainstream primary schools with high levels of additional need and has always been committed to creating environments where children feel safe, valued and able to achieve their potential. His role means he gets to work across all Goldwyn sites, overseeing the Wellbeing, Behaviour and Attendance for our students.

Away from work, Rob lives on the Kent coast with his wife, two children and Monty, their much-loved dog. Monty has been a school dog since he was four months old and has settled into life at Goldwyn remarkably well, quickly becoming a popular member of the school community.
In Rob’s spare time, he enjoys attending live music events, reading, spending time with family and friends, and making the most of coastal and woodland walks with Monty.

Barry McGinn – Head of School, Folkestone

Barry has been part of Goldwyn School since November 2018, beginning his journey as a Science teacher before progressing to Senior Teacher and now Head of School at Goldwyn Folkestone.
He is deeply committed to a student-centred approach, where every young person is at the heart of everything we do.
Barry is proud to lead a dedicated and passionate team who work tirelessly to understand and respond to each student’s individual needs.  He believes that every behaviour is a form of communication, and by taking a fresh approach each day, we help our students develop self-awareness, build confidence, and realise their true potential—preparing them for life beyond Goldwyn.
One of the things Barry values most about working at Goldwyn is our bespoke approach to education. Many of our students have had challenging experiences in previous settings, and  he takes great pride in seeing the joy they find in coming to school again. Watching them recognise that they each carry their own unique strengths and potential is what drives him every day.
Outside of school, Barry has a keen interest in psychology, neuroplasticity, and understanding people. He also enjoys sport and spend a lot of time listening to podcasts, always looking to learn something new.

Emily Oliver – Head of School, Plus and GVC

Emily joined Goldwyn in 2013 as a classroom teacher, dedicated to delivering English and maths to students facing significant barriers to school attendance. Over her tenure, she has taught across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and successfully served as the Teaching and Learning Lead.
Today, Emily is the Head of School at Goldwyn Plus. In addition to this role, she serves as Goldwyn’s Sixth Form Lead and oversees our East Kent College pathways. Emily remains active in the classroom, continuing to deliver lessons because she feels this is one of the most meaningful ways to connect with the young people in her care.
Emily is driven by the conviction that every young person deserves access to the education they need to thrive, regardless of their story so far. For her, it is a profound privilege to support students who have previously struggled, guiding them to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Tina Brobyn – PA to the Principal

Tina Brobyn has been part of Goldwyn School since 2015, initially joining as Clerk to the Governors before taking on the role of HR Manager in 2018. She is now Personal Assistant to the Principal and plays a key role within the Leadership Team, supporting governance and the effective coordination of school operations.  Tina brings a wealth of experience and a strong understanding of the school’s journey and development.

Nicki Callingham – HR Manager

Nicki is an experienced HR professional with over 18 years of expertise in education HR and joined Goldwyn School in June 2026. In her previous roles, she has supported schools in fostering positive workplace cultures, attracting and retaining talented staff, and delivering effective, compliant HR practices.
Working strategically alongside senior leaders, she provides trusted HR advice that aligns people strategies with organisational priorities, helping to drive school improvement and success. With people at the heart of everything she does, Nicki is passionate about developing strategies that enhance staff wellbeing, strengthen organisational performance, and ultimately improve outcomes for students and the wider school community.
A Chartered Member of the CIPD, she is committed to supporting, empowering, and developing staff to help them thrive both professionally and personally.

Jade Cartledge – DSL

Jade was appointed as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for Goldwyn School in November 2025, Jade’s primary focus is to support and strengthen the school’s existing safeguarding processes, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff.
Prior to this appointment, Jade spent 10 years within the Integrated Children’s Services Team as a Senior Early Help Worker. This role involved providing intensive family support, managing safeguarding concerns, working closely with Social Services, and empowering families to achieve positive outcomes.
Before joining the Integrated Children’s Services Team, Jade worked within the Youth Offending Service, preventing young people from entering into the Criminal Justice System. Jade also worked with Kent Safe Schools, now known as Salus, where the role involved supporting schools to reduce exclusions and improve outcomes for students.
Jade has a keen interest in sharks and, in 2010, took part in a cage-diving experience with great white sharks in South Africa. It was one of the most adrenaline-filled experiences of her life, would she do it again….yes!

Governors

Goldwyn is a highly inclusive school, responding creatively to the needs of each individual student.  All the Governors are passionately committed to supporting the school as it provides the very best learning opportunities to each of its students.  We are a team of volunteers, including staff and parent governors, who bring together a wealth of skills and experiences from our lives and professions to support the Principal and her team as they lead the work of the school.  It is a privilege to be part of the Goldwyn community.
Kate Wilson – Chair of Governors 

Kate Wilson – Chair – Local Authority Governor

Kate is a leadership consultant and team coach, specialising in education partnerships and leadership development. During her career, Kate has created, led and supported a wide variety of education partnerships with schools, colleges and universities, all of which were designed to improve outcomes for children and young people and to foster collaboration between education leaders, schools and colleges and multi-agency partners.

Russell Sullivan – Vice Chair – Co-opted Governor

Russell has been a co-opted governor at Goldwyn School since 2019. He spent his forty-year career in secondary education, the last thirteen as headteacher of a comprehensive school in Essex. He has also served on the governing bodies of several other schools and colleges allowing him to contribute a breadth of experience and skills. He currently serves a as vice-chair and am a member of the Staffing Finance and Premises Committee He is proud to support our principal and staff in ensuring the continued success of Goldwyn.

Philip Auden – Co-opted Governor

Phil is an Executive Coach and Customer Service Strategist and holds a Certificate in Coaching from Middlesex University. He focuses on helping individuals and teams understand what their strengths are and how they can use them most effectively to continually improve, specialising in employee engagement and leadership development.

Bio

David Newby – Co-opted Governor

David spent 30 years in the City of London working for Swiss, Dutch and French banks where he was responsible for arranging the financings for a variety of asset classes ranging from Portuguese residential mortgages to Europe wide commercial mortgages secured on offices, shopping centres and industrial parks. He gained a degree in Economics & Statistics from Surrey University before becoming an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. He then obtained an MBA from Bayes Business School and, at the end of his banking career, a Non-executive Director Diploma from the Financial Times. He has been married for 42 years, has four grown up children and four grandchildren. He is an enthusiastic cyclist and treasurer of his cycling club, the Rye and District Wheelers. He also helps out at the local cub pack.

Ivor Rushforth – Co-opted Governor

Bio

Karen Stratford

Karen has a background is in Education. and attended Greenwich University obtaining a Batchelor of Science with Honours in Psychology and Canterbury University gaining a post grad in Secondary Education. She has completed several courses on understanding autism and Makaton. Karen was a teacher for many years and prior to that, worked with SEN and hearing-impaired students in an educational setting.
